“Hi, I just wanted to tell you that I have been struggling to learn how to draw for quite some time. I love to carve and can sculpt ANYTHING. Problem is I can’t draw what I want to sculpt. Until now. I have bought tons of how-to books on drawing and tried many times to put pencil to paper. NOTHING. I saw your ad in a drawing mag and thought I would give it a try. I’m just getting started but already I can tell this is the proper way to teach drawing because I am finally getting it! I am far from being ‘good’ but now I can at least draw what I want to sculpt and I can actually draw something that is recognizable. Again I just wanted to thank you and let you know what a wonderful course you have. Now that I have an understanding of how to draw, I am hoping you are planning to teach something about how to use color and paint? Do you have a course on watercolors or oils? If not, I hope you will in the near future.”

“I found you on my Roku Amazon.com channel. I watched the first two lessons on my TV and liked them so much I ordered the 12 videos online. Also, I was having trouble accessing the course materials and I emailed your technical support. I received an immediate response and was absolutely thrilled because I wanted those materials at that moment. So thanks for the wonderful support and the affordable courses. I paid more money than this for an online course through my local college and learned practically nothing. I’m looking forward to learning to draw at the ripe old age of 68.”

“The most helpful info was the grid and the facial/body proportions. The mysteries of drawing have now been revealed! I feel I can now observe much more clearly and accurately as the result of these techniques. For so many years I wanted to be able to pick up a pencil and draw what I see and always felt defeated before even starting. Now I feel much more confident and competent to do just that. As a teacher myself, I appreciated that this class made drawing seem so much more accessible and achievable by clear instruction, effective exercises, and lots of encouragement.”

Here’s what’s in
Drawing Secrets Revealed: Online Drawing Instruction
This is a COLLEGE-LEVEL course that is worth your investment but simply and clearly explained.
Each lesson includes a new video that teaches you specific secrets to mastering drawing, as well as exercises and supplemental materials conveniently accessible beneath the corresponding video:

Lesson 1: Getting Started
For beginners, it can be overwhelming to go to the art store and not be sure what to buy. In the first lesson, I lay the groundwork for a successful learning experience by showing you all the materials necessary for this course with a brief overview of why they are useful. I also demonstrate various pencil grips and when they are needed, as this is one of the secrets to successful drawing. I also teaches shading techniques, when and how to hatch and cross hatch, and how to achieve special effects with a tortillon and certain erasers.
What is so special about this course is I teach important drawing secrets and tips that will help your skill improve by leaps and bounds — tips that I myself use every time I draw and paint! I hold nothing back and teach these at the beginning of the course. That way, you can incorporate them into your practice throughout the whole course so you can see your drawing skills improve dramatically.
Student testimonial for this lesson:
Sharp pencils and correct pencil use: both techniques combined gave me sharper images, finer lines and made corrections easier. This method required more hand control and a longer time to complete – but the results were almost magical! Thanks for the awesome course.
– Lyn Mazey
Sarah, I got exactly what I wanted from this class and MORE! I realize now that my paintings never came to life because I never grasped the idea or use of tonal value.
– B.J.
Lesson 2: Basic Shapes
An important foundational concept in drawing is becoming familiar with the basic shapes that are found all through nature. I teach you to recognize them and shade them accurately. I explain about the direction of the light source and how light informs all shapes. Rendering the subtle tones of shapes with highlights, core shadows, reflected light, and cast shadow provides three-dimensionality to your drawing. When you learn to see and incorporate these basic shapes into the beginning stages of your composition, you will render the correct proportions of your subject and you will find yourself sketching compositions much more accurately and easily!
Student testimonial for this lesson:
I really appreciated the use of shapes in order to draw a dog. It was my first attempt since childhood! I surprised myself! How much easier it was to draw with that method in mind! I’m really enjoying the course because it requires me to take the time out of my life for art. As you stated, the more one practices, the better one becomes.
– Linda
Lesson 3: The Block-In
Have you ever started a composition then found you have run out of room on the paper, or your subject was crooked or too small for the paper? Discover how to get the basic outline and scale of your image placed correctly on the page when starting a drawing. I will teach you the philosophy of the basic but often-missed concept of “start big then go small” with the block-in. Then, when you’ve proofed your block-in, you can begin details and heavy shading. This is one of the most elusive concepts for students to grasp, and artists who miss it usually produce amateur work. They jump into dark shading before doing a correct block-in, then look at their drawing later and find they have to erase something. They try to erase but it leaves a messy “ghost image” (see video below about ghost images). But I will teach you how to avoid this unfortunate problem and get your drawing started off right!
Student testimonial about this lesson:
I wanted to share with you, the block in technique was quite an eye opener for me! As you rightly pointed out, I was one of those people who started their drawing, one detail at a time (e.g. in a portrait, I would tackle the hair, then eyes, then lips, neck and so forth). The block in technique is a really helpful and accurate way of getting the proportions right and giving the drawing a solid foundation! Look forward to your feedback! Thank you for your detailed feedback on my lesson four assignment. I really appreciate the specific pointers you gave me.
– Vasvi Srivastava
Ghost Image Demo:
Lesson 4: Values
In this lesson, you will learn how to correctly evaluate values (the range of light to dark tones) in your subjects and how to render them accurately on the page to make your drawings three-dimensional. Many artists feel that values are even more important than color, and you can always tell when an artist hasn’t been trained in this concept because it shows in their work. Even if you have drawing experience, chances are very good that you will learn something new and extremely valuable in this lesson. You will learn how to create your own value scale and how to use it when drawing. You will learn the value of squinting at your subject to reduce details to large blocks of value. I also introduce the concept of lost and found lines to add sophistication to your work.
Student testimonial about this lesson:
Sarah, what a fun class. I never leave home without my cell phone and my ipad. Now, I’m also adding my value scale! As an artist, you may not understand this, but I am a retired engineer and never even thought I had a right brain. So imagine the world that you’ve opened up to me: I now see and notice shapes in nature and tonal values and can even make a decent attempt at reproducing them. I know there’s lots more to learn, but even at this point — look out world! Thanks for all your help. I’m noticing tonal gradations everywhere and will be spending more time on my drawing skills. Blocking-in was an eyeopener for me and I am in love with the possibilities of cross-hatching. I’ll be practicing it all before [going on to other lessons]. Thanks for everything.
– B.J.
Lesson 5: Action Drawing
This lesson will enable you to recognize and quickly get down on paper the dynamic core movement of a figure in short, timed drawings. I will show you which materials and techniques will prevent you from getting into detail too soon. In this lesson I introduce the valuable practice of using imaginary plumb lines to help you render the correct proportions.
My students have said this lesson was particularly useful in helping them loosen up and break their habit of starting detail work in a drawing too soon. Being able to recognize the correct gesture and essence of the form (or even objects in a composition) will strengthen your visual perception and improve any subsequent finished drawings by infusing them with more vitality.
Lesson 6: Relative Proportions
In this lesson, you will learn the critical technique of measuring accurate proportions and sizes of individual objects of your subject and drawing them correctly. I also demonstrate how to correctly gauge proportions and distances of multiple objects in a composition and will show you how to use an important artist tool to help you in this.
This is a densely packed lesson that also teaches you how to evaluate negative space to help you get the correct placement of objects. Understanding the concept of Relative Proportions is what “separates the men from the boys” in the field of art and will help you accurately draw whatever you see.
Lesson 7: Facial Proportions
One of the most interesting and compelling, and therefore popular, areas of art is the human face. Once you have the solid foundation that I provide in Lessons 1-6, you will be ready to continue the journey from seeing a face you want to draw to actually being able to render that likeness on the page.
Did you know that all human faces follow certain basic proportions? But many times drawing lessons on the human face will only show you how to draw a face in a frontal position. But what about when the head is tilted at different angles? All the proportions change! This lesson illustrates this concept and presents time-tested techniques for gauging the planes of the human face — the foundation you’ll need when rendering the curves and angles unique to each human face. You will also learn how to examine individual faces and make small adjustments that can be the difference between an accurate likeness and an inaccurate one.
Student testimonial for this lesson:
Thanks for your excellent video instruction. It was most helpful in my understanding of how to proceed with the practice face. I feel that I now have a better understanding and a good foundation for mapping facial features when I want to draw a face.
– Marilyn
Facial Proportions Lesson Preview:
Lesson 8: Body Proportions
This lesson will teach you the classic proportions of the human body. There are scientific, quantifiable methods for capturing proper human proportions for men, women, and children at different ages. You will also learn how to draw the figure in different stances.
I also use an artist’s mannequin (which is similar in body structure and joint movement to humans) to demonstrate drawing poses that incorporate important principles such as foreshortening. You’ll learn how light falls on the planes of the body. The practice activities that come with this lesson will really help you master these techniques. This fun lesson takes the mystery out of drawing the human figure!
Lesson 9: Learning to Grid
Albrecht Durer, Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, and many Old Masters used a gridding technique at times. Gridding is an excellent teaching aid because it helps students start to see objects as the abstract shapes they are instead of a pre-conceived idea of what they think an object looks like. It teaches them to draw what they see, not what they know.
When you begin to perceive your subject in shapes and forms, you will be able to tackle more detailed work such as facial features with greater ease and accuracy than you ever expected! This lesson also reinforces the skill of observing negative shapes as abstract pieces of the puzzle.
Student testimonial about this lesson:
Enjoyed gridding – makes it so much easier and am learning to “see” better. I like how you demo in your lessons – helps to see how you do it and what you are thinking about. Excellent demo in this lesson!!
– Lyn Mazey
Lesson 10: Gridding the Human Face
This lesson will give you a chance to incorporate the instruction on gridding that you learned in Lesson 9 to grid a more complex subject – a human face. This exercise will prepare you to combine all of the elements of the human face together with greater precision. This is a technique that the great Renaissance artist Raphael used to transfer his model’s image to a larger surface area.
I demonstrate how to draw a portrait from beginning to end in a grid, discussing my thought process and telling you what I focus on as I am starting the grid, getting the basic shape down, and finally refining the shading.
Student testimonial for this lesson:
I think that all the information in this lesson is valuable and will help as a guide when I am working on future paintings. There is so much to absorb. I could spend a whole semester working on these issues. I find it odd that in many of my painting classes my instructors never spent time to explain in detail the way to approach the problems that arise when you are working with perspectivve. Sometimes, I wasted my time making the same mistakes.
– Renee Freed
Lesson 11: Linear Perspective
Perspective does not just apply to architecture — it reveals itself in everything we see at all times. An understanding of the principals of perspective, and the ability to render objects correctly whether they are close or far away, will give your work the authority it needs to be taken seriously.
Most teachers teach perspective at the beginning of their instruction, but I present it toward the end of her course because there is a necessary foundation in drawing you must build before you can proficiently incorporate perspective. I introduce one-point, two-point, three-point, zero-point, and atmospheric perspectives, and show you how to draw people in perspective and accurately render objects as they recede in the distance.
Testimonial about this lesson:

This was an excellent lesson and one that I will need to do more work in. I really enjoyed doing the one-point perspective exercise with the boxes at different levels! Have never done this before, so it was great practice and I learned what should be lining up with the VP. Cool!
Thanks for another wonderful lesson!
– Lyn Mazey
Lesson 12: Elements of Composition
This lesson on Elements of Composition is a valuable recap for the entire series, and is sometimes left out from drawing courses. Even having all your drawing skills mastered is not necessarily a guarantee that viewers will be intrigued by your compositions.
Many people assume that good artists instinctively know the “secrets” to creating a great work, but really they are artistic devices that can be learned and, when applied, will build a strong, aesthetically pleasing drawing or painting that will intuitively engage your viewers. I provide this bonus lesson to give you the tools to accomplish this. A few of the topics are the Rule of Thirds, focal point, how to create depth, balance, leading lines, and scale. ”Elements of Composition” is a basic primer to teach you how to identify and arrange interesting and compelling compositions to draw or paint.
Student testimonial for this lesson:
I enjoyed the wonderful class and all your advice, and am happy to be on the list to get the [newsletter]. It is obvious that you put so much into all of it and that you care about the students. I feel that I have learned a lot and have more confidence and know that with practice and referring to the lessons I can get better.
– Delores Danks
By the end of Lesson 12, you will have all the drawing instruction you need to finish a drawing of anything you choose!
Testimonial:
I loved the course! I found the videos, and especially the demonstrations invaluable because I could watch them as many times as I needed to understand how to do the drawings. Your support and critiques were fantastic and very helpful. It shows you really care about your course and students, and your encouragement helped me to continue to move forward and improve. The tools [shown in the lessons] were outstanding . . . I just wish that other instructors had introduced me to them before. You totally opened my eyes to possibilities in drawing and art . . . helped me look at the world in a very different way (especially art . . . I now go into museums and galleries with a whole new appreciation of how a drawing or painting looks and feels) — I see light, shadow, and negative space everywhere I turn — and even find I’m staring at people’s faces (and have to be careful about that!) looking at the different features, shading, and shapes, wondering how I would draw it.
Courses like this are life changing . . . and your course has made a major positive impact on my life.
Thanks so much!
– Rich McLafferty (one of my Artists Network University students)
HOW MUCH?
If you’ve ever looked into college courses, you know just how expensive that can run!
Just one semester of art classes at your local university can run you over $1,400.00. One class alone could cost upwards of $500.00. That’s not to mention all the fees for books, materials, and gasoline for the commute.
For this comprehensive, college-level course, you could easily expect to pay $500.00 or more. However, I am not charging $500.00. I’m not charging $400.00 or $300.00 or even $200.00.
We have several pricing options that will fit any budget!
So take advantage now of these very reasonable prices before they go up! No program is as extensive, comprehensive, and understandable as this one, and no program is as worthy of your investment.
One click and you will be on your way to being the artist you have always dreamed of being!
Your Passion Drives You
As a passionate artist, you are always looking to improve, so even if you have been drawing for years and have developed your skills beyond the amateur stage, you also understand that there’s always room for improvement and exploration.
My course may be effective for beginners who are learning to draw, but make no mistake — the principles I teach and the exercises I demonstrate will hone even more experienced artists’ skills. That is why I’ve created this drawing art instruction course, “Drawing Secrets Revealed” and have worked hard to teach people how to draw whatever they see!

Hello,Ms. Parks!
The other day I received an email that lead me to this site of yours, and-I must say- your course really caught my attention. I’ve been interested in taking drawing and painting classes, but time and money did not favor me. However, I do have a question to ask before making a decision: Can the videos of the course be downloaded to computer or USB after purchase? Because some online courses do not allow this for different reasons.
Your reply to this question will be deeply appreciated!
Thank you.

It is possible to download the video lessons themselves. You would need to make sure you have downloaded QuickTime to your computer to read the files. This is free and compatible with Mac and PC and there is a link to the download page for QuickTime on the same lesson page on our site as the video files. Depending on your Internet connection, that could take anywhere from an hour or less to several hours. Each video lesson is a separate download so you would only need to sustain Internet connection long enough to download one at a time. This will allow you to watch the video even if you are not connected to the Internet.
